"We'll call you back."

Some spirits announce themselves. This one waits. Built in the pechuga tradition by a female maestra in the Sierra Sur — fruit essences, native roots, a clay still, and thirty years of knowing exactly what she's doing.

i. The Story

Two busy phones.
A few hundred
missed calls. One mezcal
worth answering for.

Vinesh Kumar and Maximiliano Navarro met at a bar in Austin. No introduction, no conference lanyard. Just two people at the same counter, orders that overlapped, and a conversation that wouldn't quit.

Both of them ran their own companies. Both of them lived on back-to-back calendars. Calls that started with "let me ring you right back" and turned into voicemails — or didn't happen at all. Do that long enough with someone and you either stop trying or you build something together.

"We spent a year arguing about the name. Then one afternoon of phone tag settled it."

They went to Oaxaca. Then again. And again. Each trip searching for a mezcal that matched what they'd come to love about the spirit — depth without theater, smoke that doesn't lecture, craft you can taste but don't need to be told about.

Three years. Dozens of palenques. More pours than they can honestly count. Nothing was quite right. So they stopped searching and started building. Some calls you have to make yourself.

Six Agaves.

Same maestra. Same palenque. Same hands behind every bottle. The agave changes the character — she changes nothing about the care. Coming Soon

ii. The Mezcal

Six agaves. One maestra. A tradition she learned before we were born.

Every edition of Missed Call starts with a single agave — same clay still, same palenque, same woman behind it. The plant changes the conversation. She never does.

iii. The Craft

Made in Oaxaca.
Made by a woman
who knows.

Pechuga is one of the oldest distillation traditions in mezcal. The maestra runs the spirit through a final pass in a clay still — and instead of the game meat of the old method, she suspends native fruit essences and roots from the valleys around her palenque. The vapors carry through them. The result carries that into every pour.

You can taste the difference. Unusual depth up front, a clean mid-palate, and a finish that doesn't just fade — it lingers like a conversation you keep thinking about. Lightly smoky without leaning into it. The kind of mezcal that doesn't need a speech.

She's been working this way her whole career. The pechuga isn't a gimmick or a selling point — it's just how she makes mezcal. We're the ones lucky enough to bottle it.
